We volunteer our time as AHA-certified instructors to support schools already teaching the state-required CPR unit.
The requirement
North Carolina requires CPR instruction as a high school graduation requirement, phased in by the 2014-2015 school year under House Bill 837, now codified as N.C. Gen. Stat. § 115C-83.31, as part of the Healthful Living Essential Standards. Instructors delivering this unit are not required to be a certified CPR instructor, so most schools run it with existing PE or Health staff.
What we offer, free
Carolina Pulse instructors are AHA-certified CPR instructors. We volunteer as extra trained hands for your existing Healthful Living CPR unit: more manikin stations, more one-on-one correction, or leading a session directly if that's useful to your staff. There is no cost to your school.
How it works
- You tell us your Healthful Living/PE CPR unit dates and typical class size.
- We coordinate around your existing curriculum, we're support, not a replacement.
- We complete whatever background check or volunteer clearance your district requires before we're in a classroom.
